pg.128

This page is also really powerful and interesting (This is after Billie jo's mom is dead and her hands are ruined). It makes you want to feel what she is feeling (restless and anxious), to be able to give her empathy and reassurance because of her situation. On page 128 Billie jo is thinking "but if I played right enough, maybe they would see past my hands.Maybe they could feel at ease with me again, and maybe then, I could feel at ease with myself." It's makes you want to give her something, I actually don't really know what I feel about this page, but I know it's a really important part in the book (in my perspective). Any thoughts or ideas?

  1. I think that its really powerful to because you do want to feel like her so you can feel everything thats happening at this time. and when you said in the quote if people could see past my hands thats powerful because shes saying if people could see me a diffrent way

  3. Wow, Callia and Eric,

Great thoughts about the meaning of this line of poetry. How one symbol such as the burnt hands make people categorize/stereotype a person. This is a great conversation. Well Done!

I might share this with the class tomorrow.

  5. Well I think this illustrates her frustration of how it is hard for her to not be able to do things not. Just because of her hands also of the thought of her mother brings pain since she has all that guilt built up inside and it just needs to be released but no one realizes that because they only see her hands they don`t see her feelings.
